Position Purpose
The position of Archaeologist is responsible for field-level archaeological oversight and associated data management responsibilities. The Archaeologist is expected to be reliable, self-driven, autonomous, confident, and able to work proficiently in a supervised and unsupervised environment. The Archaeologist is expected to conduct themselves ethically and respect others and is expected to apply an appropriate level of due diligence and care in all aspects of the work.
Duties & Responsibilities
Familiar with British Columbia Interior Archaeology and Heritage (HCA),
An active lead in Cultural Heritage field work such as survey, monitoring, and excavation,
Initiate, manage and lead archaeological assessments for mining projects,
Mentor junior staff and field technicians,
Coordinate project planning, logistics, and preparation for field work,
Assist field directors, monitors and other technicians with Cultural Heritage fieldwork,
Report significant findings, observations, and issues or concerns to KTLP Cultural Heritage Coordinator,
Complete reports, site forms, and other permit and project deliverables,
Post-fieldwork note digitizing and map preparation,
Detail-orientated data and note collection of all work being done throughout the day,
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions/terrain including but not limited to, hike steep slopes, navigate through deadfall, and lift up to 50 lbs semi-regularly,
Adhere to internal and external health and safety programs and policies,
Perform all duties in accordance with KTLP policies, standards and procedures,
Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to our community,
Work as part of multi-organizational crews with individuals of all backgrounds,
Performing additional related duties and responsibilities as requested, and
Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Cultural Heritage Coordinator.
Skills & Qualifications
4-year degree in Archaeology,
1-2 years experience with field work,
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions,
Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate,
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, technical report writing skills, and project management skills,
Previous GPS, compass and mapping experience is an asset,
Previous work with Indigenous Government or Organizations an asset,
Experience with working on large work programs with multiple team members.
