Position Purpose
K’en T’em is seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in archaeology, heritage and history to join our team for the position of Cultural Heritage Technician for this field season, ending in approximately late October. All work is field-based, with the majority of this year's heritage work occurring at the Highland Valley Copper Mine site. Must have own means of transportation. On-the-job training will be provided.Â
Duties & Responsibilities
Active participation in Cultural Heritage fieldwork:
Survey (field reconnaissance)
Monitoring
Excavation (shovel test pits and evaluative units)
Assisting Field Directors, Monitors and other Technicians with Cultural Heritage fieldwork,
Adhering to internal and external health and safety programs and policies,
Performing all duties in accordance with KTLP policies, standards and procedures,
Maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to our community,
Detail-orientated data collection of all work being done throughout the day,
Working in the field in all weather conditions,
Working in all types of terrain,
Performing additional related duties and responsibilities as requested, and
Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Cultural Heritage Coordinator.
Skills & Qualifications
Resources Information Standards Committee BC (RISC) Archaeological Inventory and Culturally Modified Tree (CMT) Training for Crew Members (may be provided for otherwise qualified candidates),
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, hike steep slopes, navigate through deadfall, and lift up to 50 lbs semi-regularly,
Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate preferred,Â
Previous GPS, compass and mapping experience is an asset, and
Previous experience in cultural heritage fieldwork is an asset.
